Despite plenty of government subsidies, healthcare costs in Singapore can quickly add up - all the more so if you or your loved ones are hospitalised. While huge hospital bills are definitely painful, you can nonetheless save a little bit on your medical expenses with the right credit card. We will also show you some credit cards with 0% instalment payment plans so you can pay off your bills in smaller amounts.

Which Credit Cards are Best for Hospital & Medical Bills?

Unlimited Cashback
on up to $5,000 spend in the first 6 months for new Card Members.
3.0% Cashback
all subsequent eligible purchases
1.5% Cashback
Cash Back Cap
Unlimited
The Amex True Cashback Card is one of several similar credit cards in Singapore that offer a straight-up cash rebate on any eligible spending, without requiring you to jump through hoops. More importantly, it has no cashback cap, which makes it excellent for paying large medical bills with.

This particular credit card has a slight edge over the rest, as the standard cashback rate (usually a modest 1.5%) is bumped up to a generous 3% on the first S$5,000 of spending within the first 6 months. So if your hospital bill is S$8,000, for example, you get S$150 (3% of the first S$5,000) + S$45 (1.5% on the next S$3,000) = S$195 cashback.

The one drawback is that, being an American Express credit card, this may not be as widely accepted as Visa or Mastercard.

If you have recurring medical bills of modest size, such as if you are in the follow-up or post-hospitalisation stage of illness, you may wish to charge your medical expenses to the UOB ONE credit card for greater savings.

Unlike other credit cards which give you cashback monthly, the UOB ONE Card gives you a flat S$300 rebate once a quarter if you spend at least S$2,000 on it consistently every quarter, with a minimum of 5 transactions per month. That works out to a maximum of 5% in savings.

If you do not spend S$2,000 every month without fail, there are also lower cashback categories for spending S$1,000 or S$500 every month, but these work out to only 3.33% cashback.

Are Your Parents To Blame for Your Poor Money Habits?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it better to pay your medical bills with a credit card?

Paying your hospital bills with a credit card may offer attractive rewards or cashback, but you should only do this if you are absolutely confident that you can repay your credit card bill in full. Otherwise, you run the risk of your credit card debt snowballing month after month.

Which credit card is best for hospital bills?

It depends on what you are looking for and how much you expect to spend, but generally, since hospital bills are difficult to predict, it is probably best to use one of the fuss-free unlimited cashback credit cards available in Singapore. This way, you do not need to worry about hitting any minimum spend or hitting a cap.

What if you cannot afford to pay your medical bill?

Do not charge your medical bill to a credit card and hope to delay paying it off. If you cannot afford the hospital bill, speak to the hospital or clinic's financial aid department to find out what the financing options are.
