How Do I Choose The Best MSIG Home Insurance Plan?

Assess Your Coverage Needs

Before selecting an insurance plan, carefully evaluate your specific coverage requirements. Consider factors such as building coverage for your home's structure and renovations, contents coverage for your personal belongings and valuables, personal liability coverage for accidental injuries or property damage caused by you or your family, and any additional benefits you may desire, like personal accident coverage or loss of rent.

Compare Plan Options

MSIG Enhanced HomePlus Insurance offers several plan options, each with varying levels of coverage and benefits. Compare the Standard, Superior, and Ultimate plans to determine which one best aligns with your coverage needs and budget. Consider factors like the extent of coverage for building, contents, and personal liability, as well as any additional features or benefits included in each plan.

Consider Premium and Discounts

Evaluate the premium associated with each plan option to ensure it fits within your budget. Additionally, inquire about any discounts or promotions offered by MSIG that may reduce the overall cost of your insurance.

Review Exclusions and Limitations

Thoroughly review the policy documents to understand the exclusions and limitations of each plan. Be aware of specific items or situations that may not be covered, as well as any restrictions or conditions that may apply.

Research Customer Reviews and Ratings

To gain insights into MSIG's claims process, customer service, and overall satisfaction, research customer reviews and ratings. Consider feedback from previous policyholders to assess their experiences with the company and their level of satisfaction with the claims process.

How Do MSIG Home Insurance Claims Work?

Before making a claim, it's important to understand the parties involved in your home insurance contract.

The First Party

This is you, the policyholder who has purchased the MSIG Enhanced HomePlus insurance.

The Second Party

This is the insurance company, MSIG Singapore, and the service provider, MoneySmart, from whom you purchased the policy by paying the insurance premium.

The Third Party

This can be anyone other than you (the First Party) and MSIG Singapore and MoneySmart (the Second Party). For example, a rental tenant or a neighbor.

Here are 4 steps to submit a home insurance claim to MSIG

Step 1

Report to MSIG within 30 days of the accident

With MSIG, you’ll be required to report your home insurance claim as soon as possible or within 30 days of the insured event(s). It is best to inform MSIG within this timeframe so as to avoid breaching the policy’s terms and conditions, which may affect your claim process.

As long as a third party is involved, MSIG would still need to have his/her details (regardless of whether he/she submits a claim against you). If the loss or damage is due to theft or burglary, make a police report before contacting MSIG.

Step 2

Take clear and sufficient photos of the damage

Take photos with tight shots and wide shots from various angles to ensure that you get sufficient photographic footage of the scene and the damaged items involved. It is also best to retain the items for MSIG’s inspection as all these might be needed as evidence for MSIG to process your claim.

Keep in mind to not admit liability, settle or negotiate settlement without MSIG’s prior approval, and immediately inform us (by taking a photo and emailing it) upon receiving any letter of demand, Writ of Summons, etc. from the third party.

Step 3

Avoid touching or moving the damaged items

It is wise to not touch or move the damaged items as they could pose a risk to your safety or the safety of others. Moreover, handling damaged items could inadvertently cause additional damage, which may not be covered by your insurance policy.

Most insurance companies, including MSIG, require that the damaged items remain in their original state for inspection purposes and a loss adjuster may be sent down to your home for a thorough inspection. This helps to prevent disputes and ensure a smooth claims process.

Step 4

Submit claim report to MSIG

After contacting MSIG Emergency Home Insurance Claims hotline at +65 6827 7660, the staff will usually advise you to submit your claim notification online, download a copy of the claim form or request for the form to be sent to you. If you’d like to receive your claims payment faster through FAST or PayNow payment options, it’s best to submit your claim online.
