Review of Allianz Travel Insurance Singapore 2024

As a subsidiary of Allianz Partners Group which has a global presence across 200 countries, Allianz Travel Singapore is one of Allianz Partners Group's overseas operations that provides travel insurance and assistance services with a network of doctors, clinics, translators, lawyers and other professionals in more than 78 countries.

Allianz Travel Singapore is known for its wide range of Single Trip travel insurance plans and Annual Multi-Trip packages, as well as its 24/7 Emergency Medical Assistance service, which is included in its Comprehensive Bronze, Comprehensive Silver and Comprehensive Platinum plans for solo trips, groups and families travelling together.

Let’s look at Allianz Travel Singapore’s range of products and services in this review and dive deeper into the aspects which are more suited for your travelling needs.

Allianz’s COVID-19 coverage and other key benefits

Enhanced COVID-19 benefits

COVID-19 is the last thing you’d want to get on your trip abroad, but in the situation that you’re diagnosed with it or you have a sudden, unexpected illness, injury, or medical condition that requires urgent medical attention before you return home (including being diagnosed with an epidemic or pandemic disease such as COVID-19), you can get coverage for up to $1,000,000 in COVID-19 medical expenses incurred during/after your trip.

Terrorism cover

When terrorists strike and cause any interruption or cancellation to your trip, you can make any necessary claims for it, because, as shocked or afraid as you are, you’d want to be insured for this.

Just make sure that the terrorist event happens within 30 days of your departure date or within 100 kilometres of any city you are traveling to during your trip.

24/7 Emergency Assistance

With a network of trusted providers in more than 78 countries, Allianz’s Emergency Assistance team can get you the help you need as soon as you need it, such as helping you out when you lose your travel documents, theft of belongings, suffer a cancellation or delay, liaising with medical experts to book appointments for your critical medical condition and even making direct payments for your medical care.

Unlimited coverage for emergency medical evacuation & repatriation

With Allianz’s emergency medical evacuation coverage benefit capped at S$1 million for Bronze and Silver Plans, you’ll be able to put your mind at ease when encountered with any unfortunate events that involve you being diagnosed with an unexpected life-threatening illness or an injury while on an overseas trip.

For the more risk-averse, unlimited emergency medical evacuation coverage is available, but only for the Platinum Plan.

Sport, Cruise & Replacement Assistance

Unlike most travel insurance companies which do not really offer coverage for sports-related and cruise activities, Allianz’s Silver and Platinum plans provides search and rescue coverage of up to $10,000 for sport activities like trekking and diving, as well as Passport and ID card protection and money cover, which can come in handy if you lose these valuables while doing these sporting activities.

Allianz TravelSmart™ App

Instead of scrambling to make a call and rushing down to buy an insurance plan or make a claim in person, you can catch a breather and enjoy the convenience of submitting your claims via the Allianz TravelSmart App and track its progress on the go.

Besides that, you can access your travel insurance plan anytime, track flights, receive live updates for flight delays, and easily contact Allianz’s 24/7 Emergency Assistance.

Allianz Travel Insurance Plans

Allianz’s range of plans are categorised into 3 tiers to suit the different needs of various travellers. Whether you’re travelling solo, with your family, or just with friends, you’ll be able to choose a suitable plan that provides adequate coverage. Their Comprehensive Bronze plans for Single, Annual Multi-trip and Family Trip are the first tier, which is the most basic of all Allianz travel insurance plans. Basically, it covers the necessary aspects including overseas medical expenses, post-trip medical expenses, trip cancellation, personal baggage damages, and more.

While Allianz’s mid-tier Silver plans offer similar coverage as the Bronze ones, it offers more benefits such as higher claim limit of up to $12,000 for lost, damaged or stolen baggage, personal liability coverage of up to $800,000, travel accident coverage of up to $80,000 in the event of disability or loss of limbs and even death.

As the most extensive tier, Allianz’s Platinum plans provide the best of everything they can offer, with unlimited emergency medical and dental coverage, as well as unlimited emergency transportation coverage. What’s more, if you’re going on a cruise vacation, you can claim up to $25,000 when you are denied boarding the cruise ship due to terrorist activites, COVID-19 cases onboard or other unforeseen circumstances which are stated in the policy you purchased. For more details in their policy brochure, scroll all the way to the top refer to the link above in Plan Materials.

Allianz Travel Insurance Claims

How do claims work?

There are several important things to take note of before you make a claim from Allianz Travel Insurance and these include knowing what type of plan you purchased, when did the incident/illness occur (pre-trip, during-trip or post-trip), what belongings or items to claim for, and who are involved.

Here are 3 simple steps to submit your Allianz travel insurance claim

Step 1

Prepare your supporting documents for the claim

Whether you’re making a claim for your COVID-19 medical expenses, damaged baggage, or other belongings, injuries, etc., Allianz requires you to scan or take a photo of original supporting documents for any claim reports made via their online claims portal. Do remember to keep all original documents for 6 months from the date of submission, in the event Allianz needs to sight them.

The supporting documents include:

  • Medical reports and related evidence in the form of photos and/or emails
  • Proof of ownership of baggage or other related items
  • Trip invoices, ticket confrontation, boarding passes, photocopy of passport and visas
  • Original invoices and receipts
  • Police, airline, transport and accommodation reports

Step 2

Fill in your details and upload supporting documents

Go to Allianz’s Online Claims Portal to fill in your particulars and the necessary details for the claims. You'll need your email address or policy number, as well as your departure date or policy purchase date for this. Thereafter, upload all soft copies of the supporting documents you have prepared.

If you prefer to do it via your mobile, you may want to download the Allianz TravelSmart App to file your claim. The documentation will help provide a full context of the incident and allow Allianz to assess your claim or claims.

Step 3

Approval of claim and settlement

An acknowledgement email will be sent to you once you’ve completed the claims submission via their claims portal, and your claim will be reviewed by Allianz. If you happen to get COVID-19 or other illness and injury before, during or after your trip, and have any queries regarding claim for trip cancellations or curtailments due to COVID-19, you can write in to [email protected] or call +65 6327 2215 for assistance.

Once the review is done and your claim is approved, Allianz liaise with any respective airline or travel agency involved and make the necessary payments needed.

During this 14-day period, if you change your mind or feel dissatisfied for any reason, you may cancel your policy and receive a full refund. However, a full refund will only be valid if the trip has not started and if a claim has not been initiated.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to receive payment for a claim?

If your claim is eligible for payment, debit disbursements may be received immediately, the next day, or within two to five business days, depending on your bank's processing times. Direct deposit takes two to five business days, based upon bank processing times. If you prefer to have a check mailed to you, Allianz’s Claims team can also assist you in that, but please note that it can take 10 to 14 days to receive it.

Does Allianz travel insurance cover COVID-19?

Yes, Allianz Travel Insurance has coverage for COVID-19 including trip cancellation or trip interruption. In the situation whereby you or a traveling companion becomes ill or injured, or develops a medical condition disabling enough to make you cancel your trip (including being diagnosed with an epidemic or pandemic disease such as COVID-19), Allianz will reimburse you, less available refunds, up to the maximum benefit of your policy’s trip cancellation or trip interruption coverage.

What are the documents needed to submit an insurance claim and how do I do it?

There’s a guide on Allianz’s claims submissions page, including a list of required documents for each type of claim, whether it’s for damaged/stolen/lost baggage, COVID-19 or even injury due to certain sports. You may choose to either file a claim via its free TravelSmart app or its online claims portal.

Will I be covered if I cancel my travel plans because of a travel ban or other government-imposed restriction on travel related to COVID-19?

No, canceling a trip because of a travel ban or other government-imposed restriction on travel directly or indirectly related to COVID-19 is generally not covered by Allianz’s travel insurance plans. However, many airlines and other travel suppliers are allowing their customers to change the dates of their travel without change fees. If you change your trip’s dates, Allianz will assist to move your plan coverage dates to cover a new or rescheduled trip, so long as that trip is scheduled to be completed within 770 days from the plan’s original purchase date.

My baggage was delayed at the airport during my trip. Am I covered?

Yes. Allianz will reimburse you if your baggage is delayed by a travel supplier during your trip, but only for expenses you incur (with original receipts as supporting evidence) for the essential items you need until your baggage arrives, up to the maximum benefit shown in your Coverage Summary for baggage delay, and your baggage must be delayed for at least the Minimum Required Delay listed under baggage delay in your Coverage Summary.

Is Allianz travel insurance easy to claim?

Allianz is a digital-first insurance company, which means Allianz travel insurance is quite easy to claim. You can do it completely online via Allianz’s customer portal or claim online here If you’re not comfortable with doing that, you can also submit hard copy claims at Allianz Singapore Pte Ltd (Claims Team), 6 Temasek Boulevard #18-01, Suntec Tower 4, Singapore 038986.

My flight was delayed for a few hours. How much am I entitled to claim?

You will receive $200 (without receipts) or $400 (with receipts) for every six hours of delay overseas or in Singapore, up to a maximum of $1,500 per 24-hour period of delay.

My travelling partner got into a traffic accident. How much coverage do I receive?

If your traveling companion needs medical attention and/or the vehicle needs to be repaired because it is not safe to operate, you’ll receive a maximum of $500 per day for 5 days.
