How do travel claims work?

Firstly, you’ve got to be clear of what type of plan you purchased, when did the incident/illness occur (pre-trip, during-trip or post-trip), what belongings or items to claim for, and who are involved, before you make a claim.

Step 1

Submit your claims within 30 days of the incident

Whether it is for your COVID-19 medical expenses or stolen baggage, Starr requires claim reports to be made within 30 days of the incident via their online claims portal using your mobile phone, tablet or computer. It is advisable to do it within 30 days so as to avoid breaching the policy’s terms and conditions, which may affect your claim process.

Step 2

Prepare the supporting documents for your claims

In order to make a claim, you’ll need to provide all documentation to provide a full context of the incident and make it faster for Starr Insurance to assess your claim or claims. They will usually require:

  • Original Detailed Pre-Medical / Final hospitalisation / Post-Medical bills
  • In-patient Discharge Summary, Detailed Medical Report / Memo from Attending Physician on the type of illness or injury sustained
  • Medical reports and / or other original documents (or certified copies) as evidence of the injury or sickness
  • Original invoice / receipts from airline, travel agent or hotel evidencing non-recoverable deposits for travel fare and hotel accommodation
  • Original invoices / receipts of additional accommodation and travelling expenses incurred
  • Certified true copy of death certificate
  • Original bills / receipts for replacement of personal documents or loss/damaged to property
  • A copy of the police report
  • Documents (such as ATM withdrawal slips, money exchange receipts) to substantiate loss of cash

Step 3

Upload your required documents

Fill in the necessary details and upload all the supporting documents you’ve prepared through Starr Insurance’s online Claims portal or by email or post. If you’re doing it by email, you have to download their claim form from starrinsurance.com.sg/claim and email the completed claim form and relevant documents to: [email protected]. Alternatively, you can mail them to 138 Market Street, #16-04, CapitaGreen, Singapore 04894.

Step 4

Look out for the acknowledgement email

You’ll receive an acknowledgement email upon receipt of the claim submission.

Step 5

Notification of claim results and settlement

Starr Insurance Singapore’s claims department will process the claim upon receipt of all documents and the necessary payment will be made to you via PayNow or other preferred modes of payment.

Yes, you’ll be able to personalise your plan by selecting the benefits in the single trip or annual trip travel insurance plan via Starr Insurance Singapore web page. Your Starr travel insurance policy will then be sent to you via email within a few minutes.

I’ve booked a trip to a destination affected by COVID-19 and that trip is scheduled in the near future. Will I be able to cancel my trip and be reimbursed?

It depends on the reason for cancellation. If you need to cancel your travel plans, please consult the “Unforeseen Events for Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption” portion of your insurance policy to see a list of reasons for Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption that may be covered, along with General Exclusions from coverage. You are encouraged to file a claim if one of the covered reasons could possibly apply to your situation as you may be eligible to be reimbursed for your unused, non-refundable, pre-paid trip costs if you need to cancel your trip.

Does Starr travel insurance cover missed flights and flight delay?

Yes, you’ll be entitled to $100 for every 6 hours of delay and this $100 is in terms of cash benefit for denied boarding due to overbooked flight with no onward travel transportation available for more than 6 hours, or in the event of a diverted flight for more than 6 hours due to adverse weather conditions; natural disasters; emergency medical treatment for a fellow passenger; the mechanical breakdown of the aircraft.

How soon should I submit a claim after my trip?

Upon your return to Singapore, any claims concerning your trip must be submitted 30 days within returning to Singapore.

If I get travel insurance from Starr Insurance now, does it cover me if I become ill with Covid-19 while I am overseas?

Yes.
